Why I Write: Escaping into Storytelling

There is something magical about getting lost in a story.

Maybe it’s the thrill of falling into another world, or the comfort of finding characters who feel like friends. For as long as long as I can remember, writing has been my escape, a way to process the world around me, and sometimes avoid it altogether (let’s be honest).

When real life felt heavy, uncertain, or just plain loud, I turned to blank pages and let my imagination take over. And even now, that feeling hasn’t changed. If anything, it’s only grown stronger.

I didn’t grow up thinking I’d be a writer. I wasn’t the kid winning short story contests or caring a journal everywhere ( though now looking back I kind of wish I had been). But I was the kid who stayed up way too late reading books with dragins, cursed princes, bold heroines, and, of course, the slow-burn romances that made me swoon and sigh and dream. Who am I kidding I still do this as an adult.

Fantasy romance books saved me in more ways than I can count. They gave me permission to imagine a life bigger than my reality, and they gave me characters who reminded me that strength doesn’t always roar sometimes, it simply endures.

Eventually, I realized I didn’t just want to read those kinds of stories.

I want to create them.

Writing became a lifeline. At first it was just for me messy, hidden drafts, half-finished ideas, stories I would never share. But somewhere in the middle of all that scribbling, a truth settled deep in my hear: I didn’t just write to escape.

I wrote to connect.

To feel seen.

To make others feel seen.

To tell stories I wished existed when I needed them the most.

Now, I am a wife, a mother of four, work a full time job, and life is often full of beautiful chaos. Between making lunches, folding laundry, cleaning the never ending dirt and mud off my floors, you’d think there wouldn’t be room for magic. But that’s the thing about stories they find you, even in the in-between moments. Especially in the in-between moments.

Sometimes I write in a quiet room with a candle burning and music playing softly in the background. Other times, I’m balancing a laptop on the couch or at my desk while WWE is happening in my living room or someone needs another snack again because the first one just didn’t fill them up.

But no matter where I’m writing from, the purpose is the same:

To create something that matters.

So why do I write?

To escape.

To imagine.

To connect.

To breathe.

To give others the magic that books once gave me.

This blog is a piece of that magic. A small corner of the internet where I share my stories, my process, my heart and hopefully encourage you to keep chasing the creative spark inside of you too. Whether you’re here for fantasy tales, writing tips, or just a glimpse into the chaos of writing while parenting, you’re welcome here.

Let’s write our way through it together.

Your Turn:

Why do you love stories? Whether you’re a writer, a reader, or someone who just loves to dream, I’d love to hear what storytelling means to you. Leave a comment or connect with me on social media, let’s share the magic one story at a time.
